Misprinted Type

I love the work of Brazilian artist Eduardo Recife. It’s so much fun to make grungy and distressed collages (too bad that you don’t get many clients asking you for a grungy looking brochure…). Check out his website, where he also gives away lots of goodies - like the awesome fonts below.

25 project

Wow, this is crazy. Via Print & Pattern I found out about this girl, Michelle Romo, who has a fulltime job as a designer and runs the webshop Crowded Teeth in her spare time. On top of that she has now started this art project called 25 (to keep her busy every minute of her 25th year) where she will design a new art project every day for an entire year! Each month has a different theme (January is typography, my favourite) and there will be limited edition products made each month (25 of each item, of course…). In the end she will produce 25 handmade books of the designs.

I must say I’m totally impressed. And a bit scared that she will end up with a stomach ulcer. Take a look at the detail of the last project - now there’s something you don’t just put together in half an hour.

I would love to have some of her energy…

Colour combos

I’m always on the lookout for nice colour combinations. It’s easy to get stuck in a corner and use the same colours over and over again, and to prevent that I try to collect nice combinations to draw inspiration from when needed. Even so, I always have a couple of favourite colours and combos that I feel drawn to for quite some time and right now it’s bright orange together with pale yellow and pale dirty blue. While browsing through the brilliant Anna Svanfeldt’s portfolio I found two more examples of the nice combo:

Sanna Annukka

I absolutely adore the work of Sanna Annukka. Just look at her Maidens of the Midnight Sun or the three-prints set below. Puts a spin on the creative mind (which I really need today, Monday morning and all).

Ian Bilbey

One of my favourite designers is Ian Bilbey. I particularly love his work for Paul Smith. Colourful, naive vector art at its best.
