Right next to the right one

Another one of my designs at Redbubble. I think it looks nice as a card, but it’s also available as wall art (poster, framed print etc.). I have a thing for birds and trees at the moment…

The Darjeeling Limited

darjeelingltd.jpg

Yesterday I finally went to see the Darjeeling Limited. I’m a big fan of Wes Anderson’s films, and his newest one was no exception.  The worlds he creates are always beautiful, colourful and carefully put together, right down to the tiniest details. Maybe that’s why designers like me can’t help but to love them. Quirky characters and dysfunctional families seem to be a Wes Anderson trademark, and I absolutely love it. Sometimes it’s enough to have Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwarzman sit quietly next to each other on a bench to make a scene complete. In my eyes, they’re all perfect for their roles (and Adrien Brody is so damn cool that I just want to go out and buy a pair of huge toned 70’s style glasses and colour my hair black).

I give it 4.5 logos out of 5.

Birds and nests in the kitchen

Look at this cool birds nest plate! Available at Show. I love the colours and the simplicity of the illustration.  They also have these cute little cream and sugar containers. How sweet are they!  birdplate.jpg

Fashion tee

One of the fashion illustrations is now available as a t-shirt as well. The tee’s are American Apparel, 100% cotton and cost € 17.06 (or US$ 24.94). At Redbubble…  fashiontee

Wedding

I’m getting married in September :-), but with everything going on (moving from Australia, getting things sorted here in Sweden) I haven’t had much time to plan everything that needs to be planned. And believe me: there’s a lot of planning that needs to be done… We’ve booked the venue at least, and that’s the most important thing, I guess.

Anyways, I recently started browsing around for wedding dresses online, thinking that it would be one of the fun tasks. But it seems I don’t share the same taste as other brides-to-be, because 99% of the dresses I’ve seen so far are awful. Well, not awful maybe, but very far from “the one”. Thing is, I’m looking for an empire line style or something close to that, but most of the dresses seem to be made from the same concept: typical princess dresses with a tight top part down to the hips and a wider skirt part. When I actually do find an empire line one somewhere they often look more like evening gowns than wedding dresses.

These two below are beginning to come close to what I’m after, but they’re not perfect (even though the first one comes close). The second one looks like it’s supposed to have an empire line cut, but it’s still tight all the way down to the waist… and I hate the ribbon tied in the back like that. But the skirt is nice and more wedding-like than the first one.

Tomorrow I’m hitting the wedding stores for the first time, and who knows; maybe I’ll change my mind once I actually try a few of them on…

25 project

Wow, this is crazy. Via Print & Pattern I found out about this girl, Michelle Romo, who has a fulltime job as a designer and runs the webshop Crowded Teeth in her spare time. On top of that she has now started this art project called 25 (to keep her busy every minute of her 25th year) where she will design a new art project every day for an entire year! Each month has a different theme (January is typography, my favourite) and there will be limited edition products made each month (25 of each item, of course…). In the end she will produce 25 handmade books of the designs.

I must say I’m totally impressed. And a bit scared that she will end up with a stomach ulcer. Take a look at the detail of the last project - now there’s something you don’t just put together in half an hour.

I would love to have some of her energy…

Colour combos

I’m always on the lookout for nice colour combinations. It’s easy to get stuck in a corner and use the same colours over and over again, and to prevent that I try to collect nice combinations to draw inspiration from when needed. Even so, I always have a couple of favourite colours and combos that I feel drawn to for quite some time and right now it’s bright orange together with pale yellow and pale dirty blue. While browsing through the brilliant Anna Svanfeldt’s portfolio I found two more examples of the nice combo:

My laptop bag

My MacBook Pro finally decided to start working again, hooray!! I have no idea why it was behaving strangely, but I ran the “repair permissions” thingie in Disk Utility and after that it’s been just fine. Yay!

Anyways, I haven’t had a laptop case for my precious for 1.5 years, so it was about time that I got one. Although it wasn’t an easy task. Where are all the fun, colourful, gorgeous cases? It amazes me that it still is really hard to find something unique and stylish, since almost everyone carries a laptop these days. Finally, I found the one - at SNAP, located in the US. I was travelling through the US on my way home from Australia and was planning to buy it in LA or San Francisco, but unfortunately I didn’t have time to drive to the shop in LA (what’s up with all the driving in LA by the way? It’s crazy! There are no sidewalks or streets you can actually walk on, so you have to drive absolutely everywhere!) and when I got to the one in SF it was closed… So when I got home I ended up ordering it online. That was on the 3rd of January, and it still hasn’t arrived! A week ago I got an e-mail saying that it’s been posted on the 16th, but still nothing…

But it’s beautiful, isn’t it? All orange and happy looking :-)

Fashion illustration

Fashion_ill

I added a couple of new designs today at Redbubble. They’re both fashion illustrations and are available as prints as well as cards.

Today the sun is shining for once! I should really leave the designing for a bit and go out for a run.
